1968 Mazda 110S Cosmo

Mazda 110 S

The Mazda Cosmo is a funky little car. Not only is it pretty unique looking (not gonna mistake it for anything else, that’s for sure), but it also features one of the weirdest internal combustion engines mankind has ever come up with, the rotary (or Wankel). I could tell you a bit more about it but I’m gonna let someone far more qualified do it. Click here to watch Jay Leno tell you all about this rare Japanese oddity.

1956 Fiat-Bartoletti Tipo 642 Transporter

Fiat-Bartoletti Tipo 642 Transporter

A while back, AV featured an article about the best, most interesting race car transporters (you can read it here) and this one was a mandatory entry: the Fiat-Bartoletti. Featured in the movie “Le Mans” and former ride of the legendary Shelby Daytona Coupes, this very special, very beautiful transporter is back on the market after having crossed the auction block in 2011 with a price tag of close to a million buck. Let’s see how it does this time…

Price: Auction. Estimated € 790.000 – 1.000.000 (880.860 – 1.115.003 USD)

1996 Aston Martin Sportsman Shooting Brake

Aston Martin Sportsman Shooting Brake

Wagons are cool but shooting breaks…boy oh boy…they take the cake. Aston Martins have always made for extraordinary shooting break conversions and this one is certainly no exception. The 1996 “Sportsman Shooting Break” being offered for sale by Bonhams is one of only two, factory made, very special order V8 Coupe conversions and it looks unbelievably pretty! The cars were ordered by two Swiss brothers who then had to wait over a year for Aston to deliver their brand new masterpieces on wheels. Chassis 79008 (for sale) was used for hunting according to the current – about to be former – owner, staying true to the “shooting break” concept origins. Despite not condoning the practice, we can at least say that it’s surprising and interesting to see this kind of rare creation still being put to a practical, challenging (condition wise) use.

Price: Auction. Estimated € 350.000 – 550.000 (390.250 – 613.251 USD)

1976 Lotus Esprit James Bond “The Spy Who loved Me” Press Car

Lotus Esprit James Bond

At one point or another during a James Bond flick we’ve all thought that we’d really, reaaaaally like to be a gadget loaded, smooth talking international man of mystery and although it won’t get you a career in MI6, this little white Esprit will at least make you feel pretty special. A press car for the superbly well known and much loved Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me” starring Roger Moore, at 75.000 Euros this Bondmobile costs about 4 times as much as a regular old Esprit but you gotta pay for the glamour, I guess…Sadly though you won’t get to pull off the submarine stunt.

1969 De Tomaso Mangusta

DeTomaso Mangusta

De Tomaso has made some extraordinary cars and the Pantera is usually the most recognized model. However, my personal favorite is this, the stunning Mangusta. If you’re a Tarantino fan, you may recognize it as Bill’s car. For years the Mangustas were severely underappreciated but now…well, take a look at the estimated hammer down price…yikes! A European charmer packing American muscle, this car has a fascinating history and, once again, I’ve got to let Mr. Leno tell you all about it.

2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV

Murcielago LP 670-4 SV

The last hurrah of a fantastic Lamborghini (the Murciélago), the LP670-4 Super Veloce is what you get when you go Spinal Tap on a car and dial everything up to 11. The 661bhp V12 gets this big bat from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 341 km/h. The SV is one of the most serious laughs Lamborghini ever had. It’s orange, it’s mean, it’s beautiful…it’s one for the history books.

2007 Audi RS4

Audi RS4

Audi has a long, proud history of taking their sensible cars and making them into formidable, vicious performance machinery. In that regard, the RS4 is one of Audi’s most successful creations. The embodiment of what a super sedan should be: distinctive but subtle looks, an amazing engine under the bonnet and a sporty but comfortable interior, the B7 RS4 (shout out to the respectable predecessor, the B5) is everything you can possibly want in a car and then some. Fantastically balanced small car with a big V8 and a proper manual gearbox…sounds pretty good to me. Watch Clarkson fall in love with it and call the RS4 “the bargain of the century”.

1953 Buick Roadmaster Wagon “Woody”

Buick Roadmaster Woody

If you’re into 50’s Americana, have I got a ride for you…for sale in Monaco right now is this stunning Roadmaster Woody featuring the most sumptuous green you’ve ever seen and lots of shiny wood paneling that you either really love or absolutely hate, there’s no in-between. Guess on which side of that argument I land…1953 was a year of changes for the Roadmaster, one of Buick’s defining models; a new, more powerful engine and a clever automatic transmition made the big Buick more desirable. If you’re willing to part with almost 150 grand and don’t mind the painful maintenance, well…there sure isn’t a more stylish family hauler I can think of. Just update the seatbelt arrangement…originally doesn’t take precedent over everything.

1967 Shelby GT500

Shelby GT500

Ok, ok…I’ll admit it; I’ve run out of useful things to say about the GT500 because it has been featured in “For Sale!” quite a few times now…but come on, a 1967 Shelby for sale in Europe? How can I pass up the opportunity to draw attention to it, talk about it…drool over it like a particularly chunky toddler staring at candy…In customary Sotheby’s fashion, the 67 GT500 being offered for sale looks pretty much spotless and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up surpassing the estimate. This is and always will be the ultimate Shelby.

Price: Auction. Estimated € 123.035 – 164.046 (137.036 – 182.715 USD)

1991(?) Isdera Imperator 108i

Isdera Imperator

Holly mother of all that’s good and decent!!! Ladies and gentlemen, behold: the elusive Imperator! Bask in its magnificence! Doesn’t it just look like the craziest, coolest thing ever put on 4 wheels? It’s like a 12 year old’s notion of what a super car should be, I love it! Between 84 and 93, Isdera made just 30 of these astonishing rides, creations of former Mercedes Benz designer Eberhard Schulz. You see, Schulz had come up with a concept car called CW311, something very similar to the Isdera you see here. However, Mercedes had no interest in making the car a reality, but the company did authorize the designer to produce a few examples of his vision under the Isdera (his own company) name. All I can say is thank you Mr. Schulz for not letting something so extraordinarily awesome end up being just a thought in your head…I think the seller puts it very well when calling this “a truly exclusive supercar for the connoisseur”. The tubular chassis makes it light and the M117 V8 (something you find for instance in the 450SEL and 560SL [R107]) makes it interestingly quick. The seller lists the car as a 2015 but if I was a betting man, I’d say with some certainty that this is a 1991 incarnation. Isdera had two series of the Imperator and this is a series II car, already featuring the Mercedes logo (instead of the Isdera one) and being overall extremely close (looks wise) to the CW311 concept. There seems to be something wrong with the right side headlight concealing mechanism, but otherwise it’s nothing short of absolutely glorious. Extremely rare, extremely desirable; if you’ve got the budget, this needs to be your next purchase.

1972 Maserati Boomerang

Maserati Boomerang

The Boomerang is not only a pivotal concept car for Maserati, but a universally acclaimed design icon, one of the greatest conceptual vehicles ever imagined. Giorgetto Giugiaro really went to town on the Boomerang and in 1971 this dream machine was presented to the public; by 1972 it had become a fully functioning, Bora based car and now…well, now someone extremely lucky will be able to snatch it up and have it be the pride of his/her collection. Yes, I am tremendously jealous. Damn you anonymous millionaire!
